A man was attacked in Weymouth town centre in the early hours before he was forced into the back of his own car and driven away.

Details of the frightening ordeal, which happened a few months ago, have only just been released by Dorset Police who have issued a CCTV appeal.

Detectives are hoping people may recognise the man in the image to help them with their investigation.

Officers said it was reported that a 24-year-old man was approached by two men after leaving Actor’s bar in Maiden Street.

One of the men hit the victim over the back of the head near to McDonald’s restaurant on St Mary Street.

The victim went to his car, which was parked at the MFA Bowl car park in St Nicholas Street The offenders also got in, ordering him to drive.

When he refused, one of the men punched him several times, causing significant bleeding to his face and mouth.

The victim was then pushed out of the car before being forced into the back seat. The car was subsequently driven to Carlton Road South near the Park District where the victim was told to get out, which he did.

His car was later found a few miles away in Southview Road in Weymouth with the lights on, engine running and driver’s door open.

The incident happened on Friday, October 18 last year. The man was first approached at around 4.30am after leaving Actor’s.

Detective Constable Declan Cummings, of Weymouth CID, said: “I appreciate this incident happened a while ago, but I have recently obtained a CCTV image that could help me in my investigation.

“I would urge anyone who recognises the man in this image to please get in touch.”

Asked why the details of the incident were only released today, a Dorset Police spokesman said: “The officers are still investigating – carrying out a number of other lines of enquiry – and have only recently obtained the CCTV image to issue.”
